Stephen and Holt’s Wedding

This wedding was held in Prince William Forest Park’s “Happyland” camp. The park is in northern Virginia. The wedding was celebrating the union of my first cousin Holt Saulsgiver and Stephen Brock. They chose to take on the surname “Ockham”, in part because of its association with the concept that “simplicity is preferable to excess”. The wedding was simply beautiful from start to finish. I wish I had time to write more, and I may come back and add a better description later. I just wanted to share these images with you all. I’ve included a couple of album pages that I’ve been working on…

“Flashback to 1969″ Fundraiser – Ozark Arts Council

What a fun night! The Ozark Arts Council had its annual fundraiser tonight at 12 Oaks.

“Flashback to 1969″ was the theme of the party,

so it was ripe with photographic opportunities! The rain threatened the crowd early on, but the musical acts were finally cleared to play on the outdoor stage around sunset and they all put on great performances. Lots of great old tunes and impressive talent all around.

just because she looked so great in it.

Senior Portrait Shoot – Harrison, AR Senior Portrait Photographer

I just finished processing a senior portrait shoot and wanted to share a few of my favorite images. This is my second shoot with Grace; we did our first shoot for her senior portraits last summer, and have been planning to get together to do a studio shoot ever since! We finally got together last week and made it happen, and it turned out to be a great shoot! Grace’s mom Gwen brought some awesome props, and we set up in our church sanctuary to borrow the piano for a series of shots. One of the props Gwen brought was an old-school studio microphone, which was so much fun to pose and work with. The microphone instantly adds a vintage feel to the images and was much appreciated! Thanks, Gwen! :-)

I recently blogged about a music video I filmed down in Mississippi, and I just remembered that I never did post it here. It was completed a few weeks ago and premiered at the record company CEO’s birthday party. From what I understand, it was quite a hit – which makes me feel good! Anyway, without further ado, here is the music video for “Redbone”, the hot new track from Mississippi rap artists the Loose Screws, on the Magnolia Boi Entertainment label.

Practice Session with Ocean

I recently purchased a new set of light stands and umbrellas from Photographer’s Warehouse for an amazing price. The umbrellas are different from my old kind, so I need to practice with them as much as possible to get familiar before the next shoot. Ocean was kind enough to help me out, and I let him stay up late playing with me out in the yard. He mostly threw leaves around and tried with all his might to pull a foldable camp chair all over the front yard. I got some hilarious shots, and a few really nice portraits. I think I’m getting the hang of these new umbrellas! Here’s a few of my favorites from Mr. Ocean’s shoot:

As I expected, I am the world’s least consistent blogger. I think it has been a month or more since my last post! Wow, time flies by! Thinking about this always reminds me of the Pink Floyd song “Time”:

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking,

racing around to come up behind you again

the sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older

shorter of breath and one day closer to death…

I know, those lines seem a bit depressing. It is kind of inspiring, though, to realize that the days only get shorter as you get older! Time really does speed up the older you get. We only have a short time to make our mark upon the world, to leave something behind so we will be remembered…

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine from Mississippi called me up and wanted me to shoot a video for his up and coming record label, called Magnolia Boi Entertainment. I went down there for a weekend and we all had a wild time creating the video together. A couple of months ago, Rick Outlaw, the CEO of Magnolia Boi, contacted me again and wanted to collaborate on another music video. He has spent the past few years building up his record label and has progressed quite nicely! He has signed some very talented new artists and built a cutting edge recording studio. I had the opportunity during the shoot to set up my photography equipment and rock out some portraiture during some down time. Here’s some of my favorite shots from the Magnolia Boi shoot. I just updated my wordpress and it keeps crashing on me, so I hope this works…

I was fortunate enough to be invited to shoot a charity event at the Lyric Theater in Harrison back in December. I was just reviewing some old shots and decided these should be posted! The event was hosted by the children’s ministry of Bear Creek Baptist Church, and these kids did a fantastic job. They threw a benefit concert in November to fund this event, which was provided a free meal, a visit from Santa, and gifts for a whole bunch of local underprivileged kids. It was really a great idea and I had a blast shooting it. Here are my favorite shots from the evening:
